Book Review - Cherished

I recently finished reading Cherished by Christian author Kim Cash Tate. Kelli London is looking for a job and ends up moving back home to be close to family, and unknowingly puts herself in the path of her old flame, Brian. Meanwhile, Heather Anderson has been kicked out of church for having an affair with a prominent staff member. Without ruining the plot, this story walks through the stories of these two women and the people who care about them. Despite their best efforts, both Kelli and Heather learn about God's forgiveness and find love as they pursue their musical dreams.

In terms of content, I love the redemption ideas portrayed as Kelli and Heather seek healing from their difficult pasts. However, I found the actual plot, storyline, and characters to be predictable and without significant depth. The dialogue skimmed along without developing the heart and soul of the characters, and I guessed the ending by the time I finished chapter 1. As far as Christian fiction goes, this falls in the category of "Chick-Lit." If you are looking for a quick, light read, this is a book for you. If you want to be deeply moved by God's grace and redemption, I'd recommend Francine Rivers' Redeeming Love instead of this one.
